Buildingachickencoop.com – Is Bill Keene Chicken Coop Plans Useful?

Leo asked:

Hi guys
I checked the website Buildingachickencoop.com today and wonder if these chicken coop plans and designs by Bill Keene are really that good and better than the free plans that I can find online.
I want to build a chicken coop very soon and I don’t care to pay for these plans but I wonder if the plans at Buildingachickencoop.com are easy to follow and accurate. If someone have any experience with Bill Keene chicken coop plans please let me know what do you think.
Thanks

A question for folks who have experience with chickens?

Mary C asked:

I am planning to get some egg-laying chickens. (Like about 6. I have a secure chicken yard and nice chicken house for them.) I am getting conflicting opinions about whether I should get a rooster for the chicken yard. 1. Will the hens lay more eggs if there is a rooster? 2. If there is a rooster, the eggs will be fertile; will these keep in the fridge as long as unfertilized eggs? 3. Any info regarding keeping chickens would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

What size Chicken coop should i get?

Margaret asked:

i would really like to build my own chicken coop and house about 10 chickens, but i want to keep my horizons open and maybe in a couple years have 20 chickens, who knows! What size coop should i get? All the chicken coops I’ve seen for sale are so small and aren’t walk-in, but are very detailed, do any of you know a website that either has larger chicken coops for sale, or even a website with larger chicken coop plans, I don’t know what to do?…

Which one is better? Bunny Ranch or Chicken House?

how do i keep varmints (chicken predators) out of my chicken house?

k_erdahl asked:

i have my chickens in my old barn but the problem is how do i keep the varmints out? i put a row of popcans on some wire along the edges of the house and they raddle when they are hit or stepped on. some people say to get a motion sensor, double the chicken wire, elec fence, have music playing. what about a scare crow? any poisons or scents they do not like? i have heard that they do not like light. i have a heat lamp going 24-7. what can i do?

Best way to convert shed for chicken house and?

chambma517 asked:

We have a shed which is about 7 ft. by 8 ft. I want to convert it into a chicken coop. I need some advice on the best way to do it. It has double doors at one end, and small prop-open windows on each side, with the back (north) side being solid. It’s a metal shed with a metal roof and a wooden floor. Someone has nailed sheet metal along the bottom 15 inches or so of the doors, which are otherwise made of plywood. The shed is located in the shade of several pine trees. I want to construct a fenced run outside the shed to let the chickens out into. What I really would like to do is figure out some way to make the run movable, so they can graze one part and then I can move it to let them graze another part while the other part “rests.” This will stick out into our yard. Also, there is a black walnut tree right behind the shed and I’m wondering if they will get sick if they eat black walnuts that have fallen into the area (which they do regularly when ripe). Any suggestions much appreciated! What I really would like is a movable chicken coop, but it seems silly to do that when we already have the shed and it’s empty.

Oh, I forgot to mention that we plan on keeping 8-12 chickens (Rhode Island Reds).

I am wanting plans for a chicken coop that would house 3 chickens. I am also wanting to be able to walk into their barn to clean it out. There must be an exit they can get through on one of the sides
