Easy instructions for Chicken Coop Designs
Raising Chicken in your backyard sure is a fun, exciting and unique thing to do. You might even be the first in the neighborhood to do this! However if you want to be raising hen then you should make a good shelter for them. Now dogs have their kennels, and cats have their comfy baskets; chicken on the other hand, when domesticated live in “chicken coops” or “arks”. These are specially designed wooden constructs which shelter them from predators such as… dogs and cats and many more.
There is a lot of stuff that you must know before you make an investment into the kind of Chicken ark or coop. Your first consideration will have to be the amount of money you have; generally speaking, if you have less money then you will want to invest in a chicken ark which is typically meant for 2-4 birds. If you can invest more than 300 dollars in to your poultry housing efforts then you can choose to go in for a medium sized or a bigger premium coop with a chicken run.
Another important consideration is the number of birds you have. If your poultry consists of about 2-4 birds max then a small chicken ark will suffice. These are reasonably easy to make and all you will require to build them is some lumber and chicken wire. Another advantage of having a chicken ark is that they are very mobile and can be moved from one place to the next. Similarly, if you have around 6 – 8 birds it is best that you go in for a medium sized coop, while a poultry of 10 and above birds is best given a large premium sized coop with an attached chicken run.
Remember, when providing shelter to your birds, the amount of space required per chicken is 4 square feet MINIMUM! So keep that in mind before you make yourself one.
