How to make a homemade, affordable chicken house & coop?
upnorthgirl asked:
We want a small backyard flock of hens for eggs, maybe six hens. We live in the woods where there are alot of coyotes, elk, deer, owls, eagles and we’ve even seen a wolf. I mention that because I want ideas for a good SECURE coop & house that is affordable. Maybe one I can use scrap material on (we have lots of scrap wood). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Get chicken wire but make sure to dig in the ground about 2ft so that way other animals can’t dig and get under the fence at your chickens. You might even want to double up the chicken wire so it’s not easily broken. Use all your scrap would to make it tight and hard to push over. It’s really hard to describe how to do something… google it and you can probably find instructions and photos for ideas.
They do not need a very big house but you need to get new wood to make it safe as possible a good six would be 4×6 and should cost under $500 and because your getting chickens you need to build nesting box 1×1 will be fine you could use your scrap wood for the nesting boxes
